Description

Logline: A policeman receives a call about a disturbance in a local apartment block - what awaits him he has received no training for. Short synopsis: In a quiet town that has been mostly vacated for the long summer holidays, a local policeman (John) receives a call about a disturbance in a nearby apartment block. When John and his team discover the source of the complaint, they find that there is no crime to report, no victim to save, they are instead faced with an unusual and daunting task that they have received no training for. They are tasked with reassuring two elderly souls who need a little human warmth and respite from the overwhelming loneliness of the drawn-out summer months. What's it really about? Kindness and care for the elderly and our neighbours. Dichotomy of youth and old age. The elderly are often neglected and “forgotten” by society and with an aging population we need to now more than ever remember to bestow our kindness and attention to the elderly every once in a while. Also the older generation are underrepresented on screen. It would be great to see more of them on screen.

Biblical Connection

John 19:25 - 27 - Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, 'Dear woman, here is your son,' 27 and to the disciple, 'Here is your mother.' From that time on, this disciple took her into his home. In my story John (the policeman) is the 21st century John. He is the figure to follow as he goes beyond his professional duty to honour and care for the elderly couple as though they were his own parents and as though he were their son. For a moment John becomes the host in their home, he cooks them a simple meal and reinvigorates one of their bygone passions with his youth. John sets a fine example of how we should honour, respect and care for the elderly. Our parents, our neighbours and strangers. In keeping with: Timothy 5:1-2 "Do not rebuke an older man harshly, but exhort him as if he were your father. Treat younger men as brothers; 2. older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters, with absolute purity."
