Liam is a 16 year old boy who lives with his mother and stepfather in Easily Tonnes, a once thriving colliery town. He is used to living life by his own rules, he usually starts his morning by teasing his stepfather about his balding head before joining his friends and getting up to no good. One day the youths are loitering around when another bald neighbour called Elisha becomes the target of their bullying but they could never imagine the consequences. Elisha went home and decided to take revenge! Suddenly 2 giant badgers descend upon the town and using fiery blasts begin to attack the kids. Liam is about to have his well deserved punishment when suddenly he wakes up. It was all a bad dream but it has the right effect on Liam who will never torment his stepdad again. Using a mixture of live action and CGI animation set to an Acid Brass soundtrack, 2:24 is a black comedy about how we all learn from our mistakes and should treat people with the respect that they deserve.
This story is based on the second book of Kings (2:23-24): From there Elisha went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, some boys came out of the town and jeered at him. “Get out of here, baldy!” they said. “Get out of here, baldy!” He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the Lord. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the boys. We have followed closely this Biblical story keeping similarities between the characters, the plot and the final resolve. We thought that using surrealistic elements like bears (badgers), so commonly used in the Bible as metaphors, would work really well in the "Kaiju" Japanese monster film genre.
