If this film looks like it was incredibly cold and muddy to make – it was. Writer/director Vanessa Perdriau didn’t settle for anything less than reality in her take on a story of faith and sacrifice, which beat a strong field to be picked as top entry for The Pitch 2015.
Below you can watch the finished film, hear more about Vanessa’s experiences with The Pitch and see her original entry. You can also find out more at the film’s dedicated website.
Set in Ireland during the third year of The Great Hunger, The Widow’s Last tells the story of Kathryn Healy, a hardened widow who fights to keep her young son alive during one of the darkest times in Ireland's history.
Inspired by a story of sacrifice, generosity and healing, in which a widow helps the prophet Elijah despite her own terrible circumstances, as told in 1 Kings chapter 17.
The Widow’s Last is currently on the festival circuit and will be available online in due course. Here is the trailer.
