Under The Sun

Created by Ben Lawrence

Description:

Robert has spent his life growing up in the beautiful surroundings of Bala Lake in North Wales, the perfect backdrop for his adventurous activities and a blossoming relationship with Esther, his childhood sweetheart. But after a head injury, his life is turned upside down. He starts to lose portions of his memory in ever increasing measure. We journey with Robert as sections of his life seemingly disappear from his memory. Knowing that he could lose his memories at any moment, he retreats into himself, losing his sense of adventure and resolving to live a life of nothingness. His family and friends rally round but to no avail, Robert can see no point in a life where memories are meaningless. Esther, now his wife, doesn't give up. She fights to remind Robert of his thirst for life, faithfully staying by his side and revealing to him the true value of time. Together they learn that by living in the moment there is time for everything under the sun and that time truely is a gift. Under The Sun will be a visually stunning, entertaining and heartwarming tale of hope in the midst of uncertainty and the discovery of life in all its fullness.

Biblical Connection:

'There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.' (Ecclesiastes 3). My brother showed me this passage as a teenager and ever since I have been fascinated with the outlook on life that the writer has. The words that follow map out, perhaps, what we all expect to experience from a full life; '...a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance...'. My adaptation of these words, asks the opposite question; what if time became irrelevant or fleeting? Would it still be possible to live a full life if you couldn't remember it? Under The Sun explores the intention of these words to see time differently and to use it wisely. The author of Ecclesiastes states 'everything is meaningless', which at first seems futile, devoid of hope, and yet there is some comfort in what he has discovered; that life and time will proceed without our intervention, we are just vessels. Under The Sun is a universal story exploring our human constraints, looking at life from a new perspective and ultimately pointing to something more.
