Description

This story is set in the year 2003, during this time Britain saw an increase of redundancies leaving many families in financial crisis. Gideon's family find themselves in a serious situation after his father has fallen into the hands of a Loan shark. After each debt had been paid the loan sharks continue to threaten the family and demand more money. Constantly living in fear Gideon's parents are desperate for a way out. Gideon meets a man at the bus stop and it becomes clear that this is no chance meeting. The man offers him a way out that would see his family free from oppression once more. Gideon was unsure of how the plan would get the Loan sharks to leave but after asking for signs that this would work it became clear what he had to do. This almost seemed an impossible battle to win but he knew he had to step up and face his fears. He wasn't a confident person but very timid shy and quiet. The moment arrives for Gideon to end this misery for his family, will he trust in the plan and believe in himself.

Biblical Connection

The Israelites land had been taken over by the Midianites Judges 6:2. The people had forgotten what was important at that time and started to worship idol gods. As a result of their disobedience they had become trapped under the oppression of the Midianites. In my story Gideon's father looked elsewhere for stability and financial support from a ruthless Loan shark. The Midianites were described as oppressive people, it had become so bad that the Israelites had left their homes and lived in shelters in the mountains Judges 6:6. In Modern day Loan sharks are oppressive people and many lives have been destroyed as a result of their brutality. The Angel of the Lord appears to Gideon Judges 6:12, fear and disbelief left Gideon asking for signs that God was really on his side. Gideon gets conformation from God and an unlikely plan wins victory over the Midianites. In my story using spoken word as a tool to come up against the loan sharks sees Gideon win victory for his family. I’ve taken this from the passage in Proverbs 12:18 which says “There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing”.
